About Mbale
Mbale is a city in the Eastern Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative commercial center of Mbale District and the surrounding sub-region.
Mbale is approximately 225 kilometres (140 mi) northeast of Kampala, Uganda's capital city, on an all-weather tarmac highway. The city lies at an average elevation of 1,156 metres (3,793 ft) above sea level.
The coordinates of the city are 1°04'50.0"N, 34°10'30.0"E. The city is on the railway from Tororo to Pakwach. Mount Elgon, one of the highest peaks in East Africa, is approximately 48 kilometres (30 mi), north-east of Mbale, by road.
Mbale City is found in the Bugisu sub-region and is administratively divided into two divisions: Industrial Division and Northern Division.

Understand
Mbale is a coffee-growing area. It is also of interest as the location of a Jewish community, along with Christian and Muslim communities. There is a functioning synagogue in Mbale.
Getting there
Buses to and from Kampala take 5 hours. The bus to Jinja takes 3 hours. The bus to Soroti takes 2 hours. There are also buses going to and from Nairobi, Kenya. The Post bus goes to and from Kampala. get on and off the Post bus at the post office. There are several bus companies which transport people to Mbale such as Y.Y Coaches, Kakise coaches, and Gate way. These buses are based in Kisenyi bus terminal, and Namayiba bus terminal in Kampala for people travelling from Kampala. There also enroute taxis which transport people from Kampala to Mbale and from Mbale to Kampala.
