About Linyi
Linyi is a prefecture-level city in the south of Shandong province, China. As of 2011, Linyi is the largest prefecture-level city in Shandong, both by area and population, Linyi borders Rizhao to the east, Weifang to the northeast, Zibo to the north, Tai'an to the northwest, Jining to the west, Zaozhuang to the southwest, and the province of Jiangsu to the south. The name of the city Linyi (临沂) literally means "close to the Yi River".
Linyi City, referred to as Yi, the ancient name of Langya, Yizhou. It is located in the transition zone between Shandong hilly Yimeng Mountain area and Yishu River alluvial plain, and the terrain is high in the north and low in the south. The three major mountain ranges of Yishan, Mengshan and Nishan are distributed in the north, with hills in the center and plains in the south. The Yi, Shu, and Si Rivers all originate from the Yimeng Mountains and flow into the East China Sea. The municipal government is located at No.17 Beijing Road, Lanshan District. Linyi is one of the third batch of National Civilized Cities, China's Outstanding Tourist Cities, China's Garden Cities, China's Hygienic Cities, China's Model Environmental Protection Cities and National Forest Cities.
The city recently expanded along the Yi River to Nanfang, now called the Beicheng New Area, under the slogan "Grand Linyi, Beautiful Linyi, New Linyi". Multiple recreational parks were built, along with new school campuses etc. The development is an achivement of a series of governmental projects, including relocating the city government, which is expected to stimulate the economy.
The population was 11,018,365 at the 2010 Chinese census, The population was 10,993,100 at the 2020 Chinese census, of which 3,651,868 lived in the built-up area made up of Lanshan District, Luozhuang District and Hedong District, as well as Linyi National Hi-Tech Zone.
According to the (China) Shandong Provincial Seventh National Population Census Bulletin - Hongheiku Statistical Bulletin Database (hongheiku. com), the permanent population of Linyi City is 11,018,365, with 51.14% males and 48.86% females. The age structure of 0–14 years old accounts for 23.46%, 15–59 years old accounts for 56.91%, over 60 years old accounts for 19.63%, and over 65 years old accounts for 14.12%, respectively.

Climate
The climate of Linyi belongs to the temperate monsoon climate. Spring warms up quickly, with little rain and wind, and the climate is dry; summer is warm and humid, with abundant rainfall. In autumn, the temperature drops sharply, the rainfall decreases abruptly, and the weather is sunny and cool; in winter, it is cold and dry, and rain and snow are scarce. The average daily minimum temperature in winter is 4 °C and the average daily maximum is 14 °C, so it is not cold in winter.
History Linyi has a long history and is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilisation. During the Shang Dynasty, the land was home to the states of Tancheng, Ju, and Fei.
Historical person Thinker Xunzi, Sage Zengzi, Sage Zhuge Liang, Sage Wang Xizhi, Great Calligrapher Yan Zhenqing and Inventor of Bead Calculation Liu Hong were all born or lived here, and 13 out of 72 sages of Confucius and 7 out of 24 Filial Piety in history were in Linyi. The bamboo slips of "The Art of War" and "Sun Bin's Art of War" were unearthed here.
Getting there
By plane Linyi Qiyang Airport is in Heodong District, approximately 7.8 km from Lini City District. It is relatively easy to get to Linyi by air with multiple flights daily coming in from Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing. At the airport you can take a taxi into the city; the local drivers will try to bargain. Your best bet is to point to the meter and pretend you don't know any Chinese.

By train There are three main railway stations in downtown Linyi: Linyi Station, Linyi North Station and Linyi East Station. Linyi Station is in the southern part of the city, Linyi North Station is in Baishabu Town, for the high-speed railway station, Linyi East Station is in Hedong District, mainly freight. Linyi is relatively well connected by train with daily train services to Beijing, Jinan and Qingdao. Expect to pay approximately ¥200 for a hard sleeper each way to Beijing.

By bus Linyi bus is divided into pure electric bus, oil and gas bus, mini-bus, inter-county express. Linyi bus single fare ¥2, credit card ¥0.85; air-conditioned car single fare ¥2, credit card ¥1.7.
Linyi has at least two inter-city bus stations, most locals seem to "show up" at the bus stations as there is no pre-booking system.

Getting around
From Linyi, take National Highway 206 to the southwest at the intersection of Cangshan and Beijing-Shanghai Expressway, south to Xinyi City, turn Xinyang Expressway to the south, to Xuyi County Huanghuatang Hub for a long and deep expressway.

Linyi Dam is the largest rubber dam in the world. There are small electric tour cars operat ing along the foreshore for a reasonable price.

Fried chicken in Linyi (临沂炒鸡). Mainly selected from the local loose-cultivated grass chicken, with a selection of spices, using the traditional farm fried chicken method to make，It's about US$17. Junan Donkey Meat (莒南驴肉) is a traditional local food in Junan Count. It's about US$15. Big store cold powder (大店凉粉) has a history of more than 300 years. Dadian cold powder used to be made of peas, ground into paste with stone mill, filtered out starch, heated and boiled, then put in a pot to cool to become cold powder. The powder, made of pea starch, was green in color, smooth and sweet in taste. Try the Shandong wrap (山东包): you pay per item you want wrapped inside the tough bread, expect to pay ¥3-6.
Drink & nightlife
Lanling Wine（兰陵酒） is produced in Lanling Town, Lanling County, and takes millet as raw material, paste with pure and sweet ancient deep well water, put malt saccharification, then add high-quality Daqu wine, then sealed in a porcelain jar. Its brewing history can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period. Yishui green tea（沂水绿茶） is purely hand-processed Shandong inland mountain green tea. Its production base is scattered in the mountains of the Mengshan Mountain Range. In the 1950s and 1960s, the "South Tea and North" project planted hundreds of metres above sea level on the mountains. The migration of these tea trees through decades of rain and wind, created a semi-wild quality of processing production unique characteristics of Shandong mountain green tea, brewing resistance, high aroma, excellent quality and pure taste, with a pleasant fresh fruit fragrance, flower bud fragrance.
