Getting there

By train Hitachi is on the JR Jōban Line, which starts at Ueno station in Tokyo and goes to Sendai. Hitachi has stations in the city at Ōmika, Hitachi-Taga, Hitachi, Ogitsu and Jūō from Ueno saide. If you use the limited express "Hitachi", you can get there in about 1 hour and 30 minutes to Hitachi station.

By bus Hitachi can be reached via highway bus "Hitachi and Takahagi Line" from Tokyo Station in about 2 hours and 30 minutes. This line requires seat reservations, which you can make at the counter at Tokyo Station or online.

1 Hitachi Civic Center, Saiwai-cho1-21-1 (3 minutes on foot from Hitachi station). There is a music hall and other facilities here where various events are held. Also a science museum, a celestial theater, and a library, too. (updated Jun 2021)
