Understand

The city's name means Land of the White Egrets in Tupi-Guarani language. For brevity's sake, it is often shortened to the simpler Guará.

By bus From São Paulo's Tietê terminal, there are two lines run by Viação Cometa, tel. +55 11 2221-5618, and Viação Pássaro Marrom, tel. +55 11 2221-0244. From Rio de Janeiro, there is one direct line run by Viação Sampaio, tel. +55 21 2233-8325.
