Fengxian District

Getting there

Metro line 5 was extended into Fengxian in 2018, with several stops in the district. Taking the subway from the city center to Fengxian District takes roughly an hour and a half. There are buses:

Nanmei Line from Jinjiang Park to Nanqiao Bus Station (The park is on Hongmei Road; Nanmei abbreviates Nanqiao-Hongmei) Shangfeng Bus from the Shanghai South Railway Station South Square. (Shanghai-Fengxian) Xinnan Bus from Xinzhuang (Xinzhuang-Nanqiao) The Shanghai end of any of these is a metro stop on line 1; of the three, Xinzhuang is closest to Fengxian.

Temples

Three Women Temple (Sān Nǚ Cí) (in Guhua Park). Named for the three daughters of the King of Wu during the Zhou Dynasty (1024-256 BCE) who hanged themselves rather than be caught by the King of Yue's soldiers. 1 Ten Thousand Buddha Pavilion (Wàn fó gé), 189 189 North Street, Fengcheng Town.

Water Towns 2 Qingxi Old Street, No. 2765 Nanfeng Highway, ☏ +86 21-31820051. Qingxi Old Street is a preserved traditional street in Fengxian District, lined with Ming and Qing dynasty style architecture, teahouses, and local snack shops. It is less commercialized compared to other old towns in Shanghai, offering visitors a quiet and authentic atmosphere. 3 Zhuanghang Old Street, No. 101, Yixin Street, Zhuanghang Town. With a history of over 600 years, Zhuanghang Old Street is a well-preserved water town featuring traditional Ming and Qing architecture, stone bridges spanning the Nanqiaotang River, and a lively local community with residents going about their daily lives.

Parks Guhua Park, No.220, Jiefang Middle Road. A classic Jiangnan-style garden with elegant pavilions, bridges and lakes in Ming and Qing styles. Haiwan National Forest Park, No. 1677, Suitanghe Road. As a national 4A scenic area, it is one of the city’s largest man-made forest parks. It provides a quiet natural escape for walking, boating and photography.

Beaches There are beaches on the South side of the district.

Bihai Jinsha (meaning Blue Sea; Gold Beach), No.6 Haihan Road, Haiwan Tourist Resort. A popular water park for Shanghai residents to visit on weekends. Covering a water area of 650,000 m2 (7; 000; 000 ft²) and an 80,000 m2 (860; 000 ft²) sandy beach with sand transported from Hainan, it is one of the largest man-made beach resorts in China. The seawater here has been purified through sedimentation and treatment, making it the only stretch of (relatively) blue sea in Shanghai. This beach is suitable for family outings (digging sand and playing in the shallow water), but Shanghai is not an ideal city for those seeking a high-quality coastal experience. Xinghai beach.
