Getting there

By plane 1 Enfidha–Hammamet International Airport. With flights from various European cities. (updated Jul 2025)

By car From Tunis, take the A1 motorway south to junction 9, Enfihda/Kairouan. From Sousse, follow the RN 1 northwest to the A1 motorway (junction 12, Hammam-Sousse/Sidi Bou Ali). Take the motorway towards Tunis (north). Exit at junction 9, Enfihda/Kairouan. From Kairouan, follow the RN 2 northeast.

1 Uppenna archaeological site. On the site there are the remains of a basilica and a fortress. (updated Jul 2025) 2 Archaelogical museum (St Augustine church). After the church was deconsecrated, it was decided to transform it into a museum of ancient Christian mosaic art, with a permanent exhibition of collections from the archaeological discoveries made in 1904-1905 at the sites of Uppenna (Henchir Chgarnia) and Sidi Abiche. (updated Jul 2025) During the museum's renovation, the Vandal-Byzantine mosaics were installed in the nave, while the lapidary and ceramic collections were housed in the former ambulatory, which previously served as a sacristy. The museum garden displays architectural elements from the region's archaeological sites, sarcophagi, and a dedication to Emperor Constantine from the city of Uppenna. 3 Military cemetery. More than 1,500 British soldiers who fell between November 1942 and May 1943 in the fighting between the British Eighth Army and American forces on the one side, and Italian and German troops on the other, are buried here.
