About Cangzhou
Cangzhou is a prefecture-level city in China forming the southeastern extension of Hebei Province to the coast of the Bohai Sea between Tianjin and Shandong. At the 2020 census, Cangzhou's built-up (or metro) area made of Yunhe district, Xinhua district, and Cang County is largely conurbated with a population of 1,421,843 inhabitants, while the prefecture-level administrative unit in total has a population of 7,300,783. The resident population at the end of 2024 was 7,227,700, a decrease of 36,900 from the end of the previous year. It lies approximately 90 kilometres (56 mi) from the major port city of Tianjin, and 180 km (110 mi) from Beijing.
Cangzhou is said to have been founded during the 5th- and 6th-century Southern and Northern Dynasties era of Chinese history. It is named for the former imperial Cang Prefecture. During the late Tang and following Five Dynasties era, it formed part of the territory of the de facto independent jiedushi of Yiwu Province.

Cangzhou is the hometown of martial arts and acrobatics in China, and was awarded the title of the hometown of Chinese calligraphy in 2009. In 2021, the original Shijiazhuang Yongchang Football Club moved to Cangzhou and changed its name to Cangzhou Lions, becoming the first Chinese top league club in Cangzhou.
Cangzhou is the largest residential area of the Hui ethnic group in North China. As of 2023, the city has 47 ethnic minority groups with a population of 287,500.
Cangzhou is located in the Bohai Sea state and has rich resources and an important geographical location. Cangzhou is one of the areas with the densest railway and highway network in China. Climate
Cangzhou has four distinct seasons, moderate temperature and plenty of light. The weather is dry and windy in spring. It is hot and rainy in summer. Autumn is cool. Winter is dry and cold. The average annual temperature is 12.5℃, and the average annual precipitation is 581 mm.
History Cangzhou was named after the Bohai Sea since the Warring States Period. The Western Zhou Dynasty was Qingzhou, and the Spring and Autumn Period was Yan, Qi, Jin, Zhao and other states. Cangzhou is named after its proximity to the Bohai Sea. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, it was the territory of Yan, Qi, Jin, Zhao and other countries. During the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Julu County and Luobei County. In the Han Dynasty, it belonged to Jizhou and Youzhou. In the Qing Dynasty, it initially belonged to Hejian Prefecture of Zhili Province, and later most of it belonged to Tianjin Prefecture. On June 1, 1961, Cangzhou Prefecture was restored and Cangzhou City (county level) was restored. In July 1993, the prefecture and city were merged into Cangzhou City.
Getting there
Cangzhou is in the Heilonggang Basin in southeast Hebei and east of Hebei Plain. The city is 120 km north of Tianjin, 240 km from Beijing, and 220 km southwest of the provincial capital Shijiazhuang.
