About Burutu
Burutu is a town and Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. It lies on the coast of the Niger Delta on two sides of the Forcados River, a channel of the River Niger, 30 kilometres (20 miles) upstream from the Bight of Benin. It has served as a link between river transport and the sea when the Royal Niger Company established a base there in the late 19th century. People living in this region are mostly of the Izon ethnicity. As at the 2006 census, Burutu has a total population of 207,977 people.

Understand
Burutu borders Ughelli South to the north, Ethiope West to the northeast, Ethiope East to the east, Patani to the northwest. With Atlantic Ocean lying to the south of Burutu Local Government Area, Bayelsa State borders it to the south while Rivers State to the southwest. The people of Burutu are majorly Ijaw with few of the population being Urhobo and Itsekiri. The dwellers are into fishing, agriculture, oil and gas.

1 Forcados River. 32 km from the Bight of Benin, Forcados is a channel of the Niger River delta which has served as the link between river and the sea transport since the late 19th century.
