Boyacá is a department in the Andino region in central Colombia, over the Cordillera Oriental mountain range.

Understand
Climate The central area of the highlands has two rainy seasons; the first between April and June, and a second between October and November with an average of 1,000 millimetres (39 in) of rainfall per year. The rest of the year is considered to be the dry seasons with intermittent rainfall.
Getting there
By road The Troncal Central (National Route 45A) connects Bogotá with Chiquinquirá and Saboyá, and continues north to the department of Santander
The Troncal Central del Norte (National Route 55), which from the northern highway in Bogotá enters the department of Boyacá passing through the municipalities of Ventaquemada, Tunja, Paipa, Duitama and Soatá, continuing towards the department of Santander (a variant of this route deviates in Duitama to Sogamoso). The Carare transversal (National Route 62) connects Tunja with Barbosa (Santander) passing through Arcabuco. The Puerto Boyacá - Monterrey transversal (National Route 60) connects Tunja, Sutamarchán, Chiquinquirá, Otanche and Puerto Boyacá.
By plane The department has three airports: Gustavo Rojas Pinilla Airport in Tunja, to the east of the capital city, Alberto Lleras Camargo Airport in Sogamoso, and Juan José Rondón Airport in Paipa.
By boat The department has a river port on the Magdalena River in Puerto Boyacá.
