Understand
This town was founded in 1889, and was originally named Storlie, after several local families of Norwegian origin. Several Danish families who had settled in the area renamed it after Alsen Island in Denmark.

By car: from Devil's Lake, 38 miles north on State Hy 20, and 5 miles east on State Hy 66.
