About

Castle Frankenburg, formerly known as Feste Frankenburg, in German, or Francoburgum Castrum, in Latin, is an abandoned hilltop castle in the municipality of Frankenburg am Hausruck in Upper Austria on the Hofberg hilltop, formerly Am Vogl. It was first mentioned in a document in 1160 and abandoned as an administrative centre in 1511. The area is used for hiking, with the 'Hofberghütte' on the site of the former castle serving as a vantage point.
