In the latest of a long line of entertainment industry stars to have committed suicide in recent years, an up and coming star of Bollywood is believed to have taken his own life in Mumbai, India.

Sushant Singh Rajput, the 34-year-old star of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story in which he played the role of the legendary cricketer of the same name, was found hanged at home in an apparent suicide.

Messages of condolence from across the world have poured in from fans of Bollywood movies with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him “a bright young actor gone too soon”.

Rajput’s last movie was called Chhichhore, a 2019 release directed by Nitesh Tiwari who released a statement saying “I am at a loss for words. I spoke to him last week over messages. We would text each other on and off. Now this is what I get to hear. He was like a younger brother to me.”

Rajput’s death is the third in as many months of Bollywood stars and comes on the back of the deaths of Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan passing within days of each other in April.
