It is famous for its natural landscape, mudflats, marine culture and fishermen's lifestyle, especially its mudflats ecosystem and rich marine resources. Xia Pu is one of the important fishing areas in China, and fishing, seaweed and laver cultivation are important parts of the local economy. The tidal changes in Kasumigaseki and the beautiful scenery of the coastline also make it a popular destination for photographers and tourists both at home and abroad. In addition, Xia Pu has a deep cultural heritage and has many traditional folk arts and historical sites.

History Xia Pu has a long history, as early as the Eastern Han Dynasty, humans settled here. It is an important coastal city in eastern Fujian and was once one of the important ports of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. With the development of maritime transportation, Xia Pu has gradually become an important base for fishing, salt industry and foreign trade. In modern times, Xia Pu has attracted a large number of tourists with its unique natural scenery and fishermen's culture, becoming one of the well-known tourist destinations in Fujian Province.

Climate

The Xiapu area belongs to the mid-subtropical monsoon humid climate zone, with an average annual temperature of 16 ℃-19 ℃, rainy in spring, typhoons in summer, warm in winter and cool in summer, frost and snow are rare. Affected by the ocean climate, the monsoon has obvious characteristics. Disastrous weather is dominated by typhoons and heavy rains, and serious typhoons occur 3 times a year on average.

By plane Xiapu does not have its own airport, the nearest airport is Fuzhou Changle International Airport in Fuzhou City, Fujian, about 150 km from Xiapu.

By train

1 Xiapu Railway Station (霞浦站), Songkang Street Akane Village, ☏ +86 0593-12306. Xia Pu Station was officially opened with Wenfu Railway on September 28, 2009, and is an important transportation hub in eastern Fujian. (updated Dec 2024)

By car Self-driving is another convenient way to get into Xiapu.

Directions: From Fuzhou: follow Shenhai Expressway (G15) southbound, turn Fu Ning Expressway to Xiapu, the whole journey is about 2 hours. From Xiamen: along the Shenhai Expressway northbound, the whole journey is about 5 hours. From Wenzhou: along the Shenhai Expressway southbound, the whole journey is about 3 hours.

By boat Xia Pu is a coastal county, but there are no regular passenger ships (as of Dec 2024), only fishing boats or private speedboat services in the surrounding area, suitable for short sea tours.

By bus Local buses are the most common and economical way to travel within Xiapu. They connect the county center with nearby towns, villages, and scenic areas, including the famous mudflat photography spots. Fares typically range from ¥2 to ¥10 depending on the distance. By taxi Taxis are widely available in Xiapu. The starting fare is around ¥8, and longer trips to outlying areas are negotiable. For trips to popular tourist spots, consider hiring a taxi for half a day or a full day for more convenience. By motorcycle taxi Motorcycle taxis are a quick and inexpensive way to navigate the town. Fares start at ¥5 but may vary based on the distance and negotiation. These are more suitable for short trips within the county center. By bicycle Renting a bicycle is a great way to explore Xiapu's rural landscapes and coastline. Daily rental prices range from ¥20 to ¥50. By private car or rideshare Private car hire or ridesharing apps like Didi are ideal for reaching remote scenic areas. Prices depend on the distance and duration of use, with daily rentals starting at ¥300. On foot The county center of Xiapu is compact and walkable. Many shops, restaurants, and services are within a short walking distance from hotels and the bus station. For a more immersive experience, walking around villages or coastal areas is highly recommended.
