The municipality of Saint-Édouard-de-Maskinongé was incorporated in 1949. The coat of arms of the municipality is a good illustration of its rural and forest landscape. The river Maskinongé river which passes south of the village turns out to be the municipality's main watercourse. The main village is bypassed on the west side by the Casaubon stream.
