Port Wentworth is a city in Coastal Georgia. Mary Mulgrove, the primary interpreter between James Oglethorpe and the Yamacraws during the settling of Savannah, lived here with her husband John, and actually so did Nathaniel Greene on a plantation called Mulberry Grove along with a distinguished tutor named Eli Whitney who would invent the cotton gin. Unfortunately, General Sherman torched the plantation when the owner refused to provide food or supplies, and there aren't really any artifacts of these places other than plaques around town.

Houston Baptist Church, 8000 GA-21. This church museum used to be a part of a plantation called Rice Hope Plantation and depicts early African American culture along with graves and Gullah Geechee relics. By appointment only. Tel: 912-965-1999.

Vast wetland area embodying the Savannah River with alligators and waterfowl and other wildlife, though the visitor center and self-guided auto tour are across the state line in South Carolina, it touches the Georgia side. Free admission.
