Joliette is a cultural, residential, commercial, industrial and institutional city, located in the regional county municipality (MRC) of Joliette, in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, in Canada.

This city boasts many picturesque charms, thanks to its old architecture that blends well with modern architecture.

Joliette is a city on the North Shore of the St. Lawrence River and the St. Lawrence Plain. It is crossed by the L'Assomption River. It boasts a rich agricultural history, places of worship, mills, forestry, and arts and culture. Thanks to its infrastructure (parks, swimming pools, arenas, trails, bike paths, historical tours, etc.), its ancestral built heritage, and the dynamism of its citizens, it is a city of cultural activities, gastronomy, sports, and outdoor activities.

Joliette is renowned for its recreational tourism offerings and heritage conservation. The main attractions are:

the serpentine path of the L'Assomption River; the development of the riverbanks in the urban area allows for walking;

Sports and recreation facilities: municipal parks, community halls, school facilities, cycling and hiking trails, etc.;

Joliette is located on the L'Assomption River and is the seat of the Regional County Municipality of Joliette, and is considered to be a part of the North Shore of Greater Montreal. The city is home to the Joliette Art Museum, whose works of art include paintings, sculptures, paper artwork and a large collection of art from the French Middle Ages.

By car Joliette is 72.9 km (45.3 mi) northeast of Montreal downtown via Autoroutes 40 and 31 (Route 131). Route 158 begins in Lachute and ends in Saint-Ignace-de-Loyola, at the ferry, crosses the city from east to west. Downtown Joliette is located 18.5 km (11.5 mi) northwest of the north shore of the St. Lawrence River.

The city of Joliette has a public transportation service, the Corporation de transport Joliette métropolitain (CTJM). The network covers Joliette, Notre-Dame-des-Prairies and Saint-Charles-Borromée. In addition, buses run between Montreal and Joliette.

The Joliette Youth Symphony Orchestra (OSJJ) was founded in 1971. The Lanaudière Festival was founded in 1978, an international classical music festival. The Joliette Blues Festival takes place at the end of September for three days. Several artists perform in different restaurants and bars in downtown Joliette. During the same period, Dance Week takes place, during which several workshops and shows are held to introduce different types of dance. Everything takes place in different locations in the city and is accessible to all. Some performances take place on Place Bourget, in downtown Joliette. During the month of May, the Petits bonheurs Festival introduces children from zero to six years old to different aspects of art. This initiation takes the form of workshops and shows in different locations around the city. These workshops mainly offer music, circus arts, storytelling and crafts. In July, since 1994, the Festival Mémoire et Racines has been held. This festival is organized by a non-profit organization that promotes "traditional arts from here and elsewhere such as song, music, dance and storytelling". During the winter, there is the Joliette MRC Ice FestivalThe festival activities mainly take place on the Assomption River, which is transformed into a skating rink for the occasion. Several activities take place throughout the festival, such as music shows, snow sculpture demonstrations and friendly hockey games. Along the river, a few kiosks sell food and hot drinks.
