Ijebu East is the largest local government area in Ogun State by land area. The region is predominantly Yoruba-speaking and is known for agriculture, quarrying activities, and local trade. Life in the area is generally quiet, with most economic and social activity centred around local markets and government offices. The administrative headquarters is located in the town of 1 Ogbere. Daily activity in the town is largely driven by civil service, small-scale trading, and nearby quarry operations. The town of 2 Itele is a traditional state headed by a king (Oba) with the royal title of Moyegeso. The wider Ijebu cultural region observes Yoruba customs, festivals, and traditional practices common across the area. Ijebu East is in the southern part of Ogun State and shares boundaries with parts of Lagos State to the south. The landscape consists mainly of forest–savanna vegetation, wetlands in southern sections, and extensive agricultural land.
