Coromandel is a small town on the western side of Coromandel Peninsula, within the Hauraki Gulf, in the North Island of New Zealand.

Drive 54 km (1 hour) north from Thames, or 28 km (half an hour) west from Kuaotunu. An alternative route from Whitianga is the unsealed 309 Road, so named either because there are 309 bends in the road, or because horse-drawn coaches used to take 309 minutes to travel it. The two ends of the road are a few km south of the two towns. There are several attractions on the road, including the Waterworks. Explore Group ferries run from Auckland to Hannaford's Wharf at Coromandel on weekends. They depart Viaduct Harbour, downtown Auckland, on Friday evening and Saturday and Sunday mornings, with return trips from Coromandel on Friday evening and early afternoon on Saturdays and Sundays. Most sailings also stop at Rotoroa Island and at Man O' War Bay in eastern Waiheke Island. Most trips take 2 hours; one trip each way per weekend has an extended stop of about an hour and a half at Man O' War Bay. Hannaford's Wharf is 15 minutes by road from the centre of Coromandel and a shuttle bus ride is included in the fare.

Coromandel Forest Park Coromandel Goldfield Centre and Stamper Battery, Buffalo Rd. 1 Driving Creek Railway. A tourist attraction close to Coromandel town which began life as a back yard project for sculptor Barry Brickell, who initially created his narrow gauge railway to help extract sculpting clay from deposits on his land. Over the years it has grown into an elaborate mountain railway with spirals, tunnels, viaducts, reversing points, and a summit station called the "Eyefull Tower" with views above the forest canopy across the Coromandel. $20 for one-hour return trip.
