1 Finca Drácula, ☏ +507 771-2070. F-W 9:00-15:00. This is a private botanical garden which mostly grows orchids. Large parts of the area can be visited on a self-guided tour, some require one of their guides. There is a restaurant on site. It is advisable to arrange your visit beforehand as their capacity for visitors is limited. When you arrive, ring the bell at the entry gate. $20. (updated May 2026)

1 La Amistad International Park. Large park equally split between Costa Rica and Panama with a few trails starting in ranger station near Las Nubes. If you intend to drive up here on your own you should consider hiring a 4x4. foreigners $5, nationals $3.

A great hike in the dry season, but not recommended during rains is an 8 kilometer trek (mostly, but not all downhill) through rain forest, within sight of Volcan Baru, into Boquete. Take a half-hour 4WD taxi (shared with two others/$5 per person) up to the ranger station and then hike for 5 hours to the ranger station on the other side of the park. At the other end, exhausted, and still with 4 kilometers to go to reach Boquete, you may be lucky and be able to hitch a ride with a farmer delivering carrots to market.
