Bosaso (PP News Desk) — Puntland Security Forces (PSF) have conducted a security operation in the Bari region of Somalia, in the process apprehending senior Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters in the area.
The PSF arrested the senior Al-shabaab commanders and fighters who were allegedly in charge of assembling improvised explosive devices and planting them in the main road between Karin and Galgala.
The PSF also seized materials used for explosives, but have not yet disclosed the names and number of Al-shabaab commanders it has taken into custody as a result of the action.
Puntland State Television reported that the operation aims to target Al-shabaab bases in Puntland. “Security forces captured supplies, camels and donkeys Al-shabaab uses for ferrying weapons and ammunitions” reads a PSF statement posted in Facebook.
The Puntland Government has of late stepped up pressure on Al-shabaab and ISIS fighters in their hideouts in the hard-to-access parts of Bari, a region known for its mountains and treacherous, unpaved routes through the area.
