Taiwan Online Face Mask Registration Update

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced on Monday, March 16th, that fewer than 800,000 individuals had used its online face mask ordering system.

Launched late last week, the system was in part a reaction to long lines seen at pharmacies in recent weeks. It will also allow those with work commitments a method by which to purchase masks.

Following its initial launch, there was a brief period of confusion with some attempting to register unaware of exactly how to do so. However, all residents with National Health Insurance identity numbers can now order using an online app, or webpage.

Of the 800,000 ordering to date, one official has, according to The China Post, stated that all will receive their masks.

The online ordering system will run until tomorrow, March 18th. A day later, on the 19th, a confirmation text message will be sent. The text message will detail payment procedure, and collection procedure at pre-selected convenience stores.

Each packet of three masks will cost NT $22 ($5 per mask with a $7 shipping fee) and can be collected anytime between March 26th, and April 1st. At time of collection NHI cards or other government issued ID must be presented.
