Puntland Tailors Shine In Bid To Counter Spread Of COVID-19

Garowe (PP News Desk) — Shortly after COVID-19 was declared a global pandemic, experts recommended face-coverings as one of the preventive measures against the coronavirus.

In Puntland the price of imported, disposable face-coverings have since increased greatly.

As a result, Puntland tailors in Garowe have been stepping in to meet the demand for reusable face-coverings.

A Puntland Post reporter visiting Garowe market saw how the local tailors have found ways to design and tailor reusable face-coverings.

Ruqiya has bought a face-covering made in Garowe

“I have bought the face-covering I am wearing from a tailor in this market. It was made from a clean fabric. I have more confidence in face-coverings manufactured here than those imported from foreign countries. ” said Ruqiya, a small business owner in Garowe.

Ruqiya urged citizens to go to local tailors and order custom-made face-coverings to prevent the spread of COVID-19!

Abdirahman: As tailors we are doing our bit to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and make affordable and reusable face-coverings

“We are doing our bit to prevent the sprad of COVID-19. Consumers cannot afford to buy face-coverings sold at pharmacies. That’s why I have begun to make reusable face-coverings at affordable prices” said Abdirahman Boobsiiye, a tailor in Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland State.

Abdirahman also said that he was exploring different ways to make more forms of the face-coverings.

The Puntland State Government meanwhile is looking into making face-covering mandatory in public spaces.

“Puntland Government should commission local tailors to make face-coverings to be distributed to the poor families free of charge” suggested Mohamud Ali, a teacher in Garowe.
