Puntland President Looks At Public Finance Reform

Garowe (PP News Desk) — The President of Puntland Said Abdullahi Deni yesterday chaired the public finances and local revenue generation reform meeting in Garowe.

The Puntland Vice President, Ahmed Elmi also attended the meeting.

The meeting comes after several weeks of public concern and consternation regarding the financial sector in the geographically significant region of the Horn of Africa, neighbouring Taiwan’s diplomatic ally in the region Somaliland to the west, and the rest of Somalia to the south.

The Public Finances and Local Revenue Generation Committee presented data collected from government agencies and local governments in Puntland.

“Public finances reforms and improving government revenues will facilitate the implementation of a centralised treasury and good governance to prevent leakage” reads a statement from the office of the Puntland Presidency.

President Deni commended the work of the public finances reform committee, and urged government agencies and local governments to play a role in realising core goals of the initiative such as increasing government revenues.

The Accountant General, the Auditor General and the Attorney General of Puntland also attended the meeting.
