Bosaso (PP News Desk) — In the latest example of unrest in the Horn of Africa, the Puntland Maritime Police Force (PMPF) have conducted a security operation in Guardafui in the remote north east of Somalia.

The PMPF subsequently issued a statement on the nature of the security operation carried out.

“Puntland Maritime Police Force clashed with militias who blocked the unpaved road with rocks that affected travel along the road. (The) PMPF seized a lorry carrying supplies and ammunitions for the militias” reads the statement.

PMPF soldiers at on the way to Bareedo town.

PMPF officers visited Bareedo town where they met locals to brief them about the security operation.

Reliable sources told the Puntland Post that the area’s traditional leaders had intervened and managed to persuade militias to leave the area.

Militias reportedly attempted to prevent deployment of troops sent to replace Guardafui policemen who are undergoing a training session at Horgoble in Qardho.

Guardafui is one of the least accessible regions in Puntland, the region to the east of Taiwan’s ally in the region, Somaliland, due in large part to a lack of properly paved roads.
