Jubaland To Attend National Consultative Summit In Somalia

Kismayo (PP News Desk) — Jubaland State Vice President Mohamud Sayid Aden told the BBC Somali Service that the Kismayo-based Federal Member State would attend the national consultative summit to be held in Mogadishu on 20 May, 2021.

“We will raise the unresolved issues that we would like to be addressed at the summit” said Mohamud. Jubaland.

The Vice President added that there were also residual issues pertaining to the 17 September electoral model.

President Ahmed M. Islam seeks to have the interim status of his administration waived by Roble.

Jubaland seeks seeks to renegotiate terms of the electoral agreement signed in Dhuusamareeb by Jubaland President Ahmed M. Islam.

Another burning issue is the interim status of the Jubaland administration whose mandate ends in September 2021, based on the recognition granted by the Federal Government of Somalia due to parallel elections held in Kismayo in 2019.

Jubaland leaders fear that the Gedo clause in the electoral model will set a precedent applicable to other Jubaland social groups that have no confidence in the incumbent administration led by President Ahmed M. Islam.

Sources close to Jubaland State House told the Puntland Post that the Jubaland leader will ask for Mohamed Hussein Roble, the Prime Minister, to waive the interim status conferred on Jubaland by the Federal Government of Somalia.
