On May 29, US President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrived at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde to comfort a community in mourning from the shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead last week on Tuesday.

Salvador Ramos, an 18-year-old student at Uvalde High School, was identified as the gunman who stormed into Robb Elementary.

Before entering the school, Ramos shot his grandmother in the face, fled, and crashed his car near Robb Elementary School. After spending more than one hour inside, he was killed by law enforcement officers.

Without having a known criminal or mental health history, Ramos frequently made sexual violence and school shootings threats on social media. Users who witnessed the threats didn’t consider them to be authentic until they saw the news.

According to authorities, Ramos legally purchased two guns on May 17 and May 20 at a local federal firearms licensee and 375 rounds of ammunition on May 18.

After the mass shooting, the issue of gun control is being debated in the US once again.

“When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? Why are we willing to live with this carnage? Why do we keep letting this happen?” Biden called for action hours after the Texas school shooting.

“Evil came to that elementary school classroom in Texas, to that grocery store in New York, to far too many places where innocents have died,” Biden said Saturday in a commencement address at the University of Delaware as well. “We have to stand stronger. We must stand stronger. We cannot outlaw tragedy, I know, but we can make America safer.”
