Zelensky calls on 9/11 to plea US Congress

Ukraine’s president invokes horror of 2001 terror attacks on the US. He pleaded for more military assistance. This was during a historic address to the US Congress.

Zelensky shared a video link. The link described the 9/11 battle that Ukraine was enduring.

He urged US and Nato allies to enforce a no-fly zone. He mentioned this by saying, “I need to protect the sky.”

President Biden later signed off an extra $800m (£612m) aid for the military. Zelensky pleaded with US Congress to remember the attack at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and 11 September 2001. He stated that Ukrainians are encountering the same thing every day. He mentioned Martin Luther King’s famous speech: “I have a dream, these words are known to each of you – today I can say I have a need. I need to protect the sky.”

He said that US history has pages of attacks. And that they need to understand Ukraine now. The Ukrainian leader showed a video of missile strikes. Nato also keeps refusing to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

A no-fly zone over Ukraine states that Nato forces would have to get involved. They will also have to engage directly with any Russian planes spotted in Ukraine’s skies.

Zelensky even asked for an alternative for a no-fly zone. This alternative was air-defense systems and aircraft.

He previously asked the US and the EU for Polish MiG-29 fighter jets. But President Biden rejected this. This was because of the fear that this would pull Nato members into war.

Zelensky also mentioned Biden and stated that he wishes him to be the leader of the world and call for peace.

US media report says that the $800m will go towards anti-armor and anti-aircraft weapons.

The funding based on humanitarian, defensive, and economic assistance will bring a little relief to Ukraine. However, other nations are supporting Ukraine. The Czech leader told Ukrainians that they were not alone.
