It is known that the relations between Russia and Taiwan are improving in recent times. It is also expected that the relations will keep on improving further for the foreseeable future. Now, Voice of America has published a report regarding Russia and Taiwan’s relationship. This report was published on how the ties between the two countries are looking promising.
As a part of the improving ties, direct flights between Russia and Taiwan were established in early May which was the first time in history between those two countries. These routes were between Taoyuan International Airport and Moscow. Also, a direct flight was established between the city of Vladivostok too.
We know that there is a visa waiver program for those direct flights between Russia and Taiwan. But the visa waiver program ends on July 31, 2019. But it is also being reported that the visa waiver program might be extended if the direct flights turn out to be successful after two months.
This visa waiver program was actually established by Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Russian citizens back in September 2018, to increase tourism and business. Voice of America also reports that some businessmen in Russia are hoping for Taiwan to become a trading partner with the federation. This means that Russia’s annual trade with Cypress might be surpassed by Taiwan.
There are also reports that the relationship improvements between Russia and China are also supported by Russia’s government. However, some say that this is Russia’s lose partnership with China. Voice of America’s Nikolsky also says that the Russian government is secretly funding events in Taiwan including celebrations of Orthodox Easter, Victory Day and Slavic cultural festival.
Another interesting tidbit is that a Taiwanese film was awarded as the “Best Film” at the Baikal International Film Festival where China and Taiwan were included as separate nations participating at the festival.
