Ukraine calls for a meeting with Russia and prime members of the European security group. The country wishes to talk about the increasing tensions on its border. Dmytro Kuleba, Foreign Minister, states that Russia avoided Ukraine’s formal requests. The next stage was requesting a meeting within the next 48 hours.
This meeting aimed to discuss transparency on Russia’s plans. Russia denies all plans to invade Ukraine. The US highlights that Moscow may begin aerial bombardments. This fear made many citizens leave Ukraine.
Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s ambassador, went back on the comments he made to BBC. In this, he stated that Ukraine was willing to be “flexible” on its ambition to join NATO. And this is a major concession to Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukraine requested Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for an explanation. In the Vienna Document, OSCE members can ask Russia about its military activities. Russia is also a part of this association.
Mr. Kuleba stated, “If Russia is serious when it talks about the indivisibility of security in the OSCE space, it must fulfill its commitment to military transparency to de-escalate tensions and enhance security for all,”.
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, states that there is no evidence. Russia was also never planning an invasion in the coming days.
In long talks with Joe Biden, Biden had stated about his support for Ukraine. Both leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to pursue diplomacy and deterrence.
Ukraine thanked the US for its unwavering support. Also, President Zelensky invited the US leader to come to Ukraine. Though, there are no comments on the invitation from the White House. An hour-long call between Biden and Vladimir Putin also failed to yield a result.
Russia explains that its build of troops is its own concern. Yuri Ushakov, a Senior foreign policy official, also considers US warnings of invasion as “hysteria has reached its peak”.
