60 million jabs milestone has been passed by the UK after the 762000 marks in a day

At least more than 60 million coronavirus vaccine doses have been generated in the UK. This is as per the announcement of the health secretary. There were at least 762361 first or second doses on Saturday. It is the second-highest of the daily total rolling out of vaccines. There are more than 22 million people who had both doses.

A recent study has found that Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines are much more effective after the two doses against the variant of India. The UK Health Security Agency’s head is urging people to get their second jab.

Dr. Jenny Harries is saying that the study was the first real-world evidence for the effectiveness of the vaccine against a variant. It’s a straightforward message for the people to make sure that they are taking their second jab.

However, while talking of the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show, she has urged the public to stay cautious to avoid another shutdown. She warned about the threat of the Indian Variant, which is much dominant in some parts of the country.

The latest government data shows that 556951 adults in the UK have received the second dose on Saturday. At least 43% of the adult population got the vaccine successfully. Among them, 205410 were the first doses. Therefore, bringing the number of people having one dose to 37943631 people or 72% of adults.

The dose figure of Saturday surpassed the previous daily highest total of 547636, set on 24th April.

Public Health England, running the study into two vaccines, says that, they are going to be more effective in preventing hospital admission and deaths. The health secretary tweeted, “This is a fantastic milestone in our fight against this virus.”

Earlier, Matt Hanock also said that the PHE study findings are showing that getting both doses of vaccine was vital.

Appointments for the second doses for the people in England are bringing forward 12-8 weeks for those who are in the top nine priority groups. The variant discovered in India is B.1.617.2, which is responsible for the major cases in England.

Both the vaccines were only 33% effective against this Indian variant. However, this is compared with the 50% effectiveness against the Kent variant.
