U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo: SG
Taiwan has officially thanked U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of the United States for calling on nations around the world to back Taiwan’s bid to participate at the World Health Assembly (WHA) and other relevant U.N. organizations.
In a move likely to once again ruffle the feathers of Beijing, Pompeo was speaking at a Washington press conference on Wednesday, and took China to task on “deploying its propaganda organs” amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic.
In doing so, he also referenced his British counterpart, Dominic Raab’s comment in recent days that Britain “can’t go back to business as usual” with China.
Referring to Pompeo’s comments on Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taipei (MOFA) on Thursday responded by thanking the U.S. administration and the Congress for their continued in support of Taiwan’s participation in the WHO.
The U.S. State Department has also recently tweeted that they will be using the hashtag “Taiwan model” as part of the efforts to secure Taiwanese attendance.
MOFA added that the U.S. State Department’s “TweetForTaiwan” campaign has caused something of a stir and that the ministry will continue to work with the United States and other countries to safeguard the health and safety of the people of Taiwan, the United States and all mankind.
