Shortly afterward, the plane experienced a sudden drop of just under 2,000 feet before the final rapid descent.

The last data transmission from the plane occurred at 1:22 p.m. local time, just moments before the crash. The cause of the sudden and dramatic altitude loss remains unclear, and an investigation is underway to determine the factors leading to the tragedy.
