Terry Gou says Taiwan should not take sides in US-China trade war

There is currently a huge trade war which is playing out between the US and China. For this reason, Huawei has been banned in the US from selling their products. Also, US companies are not allowed to trade with Huawei as it has been blacklisted by the US government. Amid all this confusion, we have a comment from the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Chairman Terry Gou.

The report from FocusTaiwan further indicates, Terry Gou is also a Presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in Taiwan next year. He says that Taiwan should not take sides in the ongoing trade war between United States and China. Now, this statement came from Terry Gou when he held a press conference on the impact Taiwan may face due to the US-China trade war. He added that Taiwan must acknowledge the issue but should not and cannot let itself be embroiled in the dispute.

Gou also added that the US-China trade war is turning out into a large-scale confrontation. He says that it is the biggest thing after global financial crisis which happened in 2009. Terry Gou believes that Taiwan could fall into unpredicted danger if it chooses sides between the two countries. This also shows that Terry Gou does not believe Taiwan should take US’s side in the US-China trade war. He said:

“If the government does not deeply understand the significance behind the actions taken by China and the U.S. at this critical moment, Taiwan’s economy will only perish at its own peril,”

Terry Gou also said that Taiwan should not take sides in the US-China trade war. Instead of that, Taiwan should remain in the middle and make use of its advantage in the global supply chain. This press conference from Terry Gou came after China released a white paper clarifying its position in the trade war against the US.
