Tennis star Hsieh Su-wei from Taiwan wins women’s doubles title in the UK
In some welcome news for all the sports fans around Taiwan, Hsieh Su-wei who is the tennis superstar along with Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic won the women’s doubles title at Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham, UK on Sunday.
The duo of Hsieh and Barbora defeated the pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld from Germany and Demi Schuurs from the Netherlands with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-7, and 10-8 in 109 minutes of the match. This meant that they took the title of the tournament as well as prize money of US $50,080 each.
Although the pair of Hsieh and Strycova won the first five games of the match, their opponents came back to win the next four. Despite that, they went on to win the first set of the match and took the match into the second set with a 1-0 lead favoring them.
In the second set, the pair fell behind 2-3 in the first five games of the set and went on to lose the set by 6-7. They later won the third set with a margin of 10-8 as the tournament did not have tie-breaker for the last and final set.
With this, the pair have now won three titles this year which include the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships in February and Mutua Madrid Open in May earlier this year.
Birmingham Classic is a premier level women’s tennis tournament on WTA Tour held at the Priory Club in Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK. This tournament has been sponsored by Nature Valley which is a brand of granola bars made by General Mills, a U.S. -based food company.
Also, this tournament is believed to be a great warm-up tournament for the Wimbledon tournament that is coming next for all the tennis champions in London. Wimbledon is also the oldest tennis tournament in the world and one of the four grand slams every year.
