A party official of DPP has announced that the result of the opinion poll, which will determine who is the winner of ruling Democratic Progressive Party’s presidential primary is expected to be announced on Thursday as TheDiplomat reports.
The poll was conducted by five different polling companies at the same time who are looking to get 3000 valid responses each. This means that a total of 15000 valid responses will be expected by Wednesday. This was told to reported by the DPP Secretary-General Lo Wen-jia.
Lo added that all the responses, once recorded, will be tallied on Thursday morning and the result should be available by Thursday afternoon. In the election for DPP presidential poll, President Tsai Ing-wen and former Premier Lai Ching-te will be invited to monitor this process.
It is worth noting that President Tsai and former Premier Lai are also the two contenders in this election. The decision by Lai to challenge internally in the party against Tsai was because the Tsai led DPP faced a major defeat in elections for local officies last year in November.
This poll, as we reported earlier, will be done by cellphone calls as well as through landline calls. It will pit Tsai and Lai against Kaohsuing Mayor Han Kuo-yu from Kuomintang and independent Mayor Ko Wen-je who are seen as opponents in the Presidential elections of January 2020.
On the other hand, KMT held a forum at its headquarters on Tuesday in order to discuss regarding the opinion poll that will be held for its presidential primary. The participants who attended KMT’s forum were not able to reach a consensus on having cellphone calls included in the polls.
It was decided, therefore, that landline calls will only be used in its Presidential primary according to the rules approved in May. This is opposed to the Presidential Primary from DPP which included both landline calls as well as cellphone calls.
