Taiwanese Woman Deported From S.Korea

A Taiwanese woman has returned to Taiwan after being deported from South Korea.

The woman in question who has not been named is believed to have arrived back in Taiwan late on Sunday.

The reason behind her deportation is understood to have been non-compliance with local quarantine rules.

Reports from South Korea indicate that the woman refused to pay fees associated with her stay in a quarantine facility. She had been undergoing a mandatory two week period of quarantine required of all international arrivals after arriving in the country on March 31st.

Daily fees for quarantine in South Korea are believed to be around 100,000 won – NT $2,450 – according to local sources.

The woman was the first person to be deported from Korea according to immigration officials who stated that “a refusal of the government’s quarantine measures to contain the virus outbreak” was behind the move.

She will now be forced to undergo a period of 14 days quarantine in Taiwan.

South Korea was one of the early hot spots when the coronavirus first started spreading out across the world from China. The area in and around the city of Daegu was particularly hard hit at the time.

In the most recent figures available from Seoul, the country recorded 47 new cases of the virus today to take the total number of infections in South Korea 10,284. Almost 200 people have already died of the virus.
