Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen apologizes twice in a week over #MeToo allegations

We have already seen that the tensions between China and the US involving Taiwan are at an all-time high. However, we have something which is not related to the tensions between the two countries after many days. This time around, we are reporting about the fact that Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has apologized to the public of Taiwan for the second time in just a week after one of her policy advisers resigned due to a #MeToo allegation that was levied against him. For those of you who don’t know, the #MeToo hashtag started as a trend few years back when people would come out and talk about sexual harassment they had to face anywhere from anyone.

This movement became so powerful that many senior people have had to resign and leave their jobs all over the world. While the cases are yet to be proven, it is worth noting that the best thing to do is to resign and then let judiciary take its course. This is exactly what has happened in the Taiwan Senior Adviser’s case as well. Taiwan’s first female President, Tsai Ing-wen said on Facebook, “As the President and former DPP chair, I’d like to apologize to the public again with the development of sexual harassment incidents by former party workers”. “We’ve also seen such cases are everywhere, not only in the DPP or other political parties, but also in workplaces of society and neighborhoods.”

It is worth noting that the senior adviser named Yan Chih-fa has resigned after a former worker accused him of sexual harassment. However, it is also to be noted that Yan has denied the allegations and has vowed to cooperate in an investigation to clear his name. Now, we are not taking anyone’s side here but it is not quite a coincidence to see such allegations being levied against senior people in the government just when the next elections are about to take place. This is a trend we have seen all over the world as something or the other always happens when the elections are just a few months away.
