Somalia PM Urges Electoral Participation

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — The Prime Minister of Somalia, Mohammed Hussein Roble has called on the Puntland and Jubaland leaders to join the electoral summit currently going on in Mogadishu.

“The Federal Government of Somalia is calling on the Federal Member States not attending the National Consultative Summit on Elections to join the talks to thrash out differences to conduct transparent elections in Somalia” reads a statement from the Office of the Somali Prime Minister.

Members of the International Community held talks with the Somali Prime Minister on the 17 September Agreement and Baidoa Recommendations.

Puntland and Jubaland leaders formed a political alliance and are seeking to redefine stakeholders beyond Federal Member States and the executive and legislative branches of the Federal Government of Somalia for participation in the talks.

Separate talks held by Federal Member States in Mogadishu have not yielded any results.

Hirshabelle, South West and Galmudug rejected demands from Puntland and Jubaland to renegotiate terms of 17 September Agreement and inclusion of non-signatories in the electoral talks.
