Somali Youth Groups Oppose Warmongering In Mogadishu

Mogadishu youth groups ‘oppose warmongering’.

Mogadishu (PP News Desk) — A three-day conference for Mogadishu youth groups was concluded in Mogadishu today.

Participants have passed resolutions in favour of “peaceful co-existence for Somalis”.

“We don’t want our children to go through the same tribulations we did as children. We say ‘no to warmongers’” said one of the participants.

Participants took note of the tense political situation in Somalia and warned against attempts to drive a wedge between Somali people.

(The) “Damuljadiid group has an agenda, and is making baseless claims about the political situation in Somalia” said another participant. Damulajdiid is a politico-religious group to which Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the former Somalia President, belongs.

“We oppose politicians who are keen on creating hostilities among Somali clans for political purposes. It is deplorable that some traditional leaders have resorted to fanning hostilities. As youth groups we have decided to stand up for peace and say ‘no to destablisation’” reads one of the resolutions.

A one-day consultative conference for a group of Hawiye politicians against the mandate extension for federal institutions was also concluded in Mogadishu this week.

Several Presidential Candidates including Hassan Ali Kheire, Abdikarim Guled and Dahir Mohamud Gelle have boycotted the conference they deem to be a platform for Sheikh Ahmed and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, two former Somalia Presidents.
