Roble and Presidential Candidates discussed ways to break the electoral deadlock, and the need to conduct peaceful demonstrations following the 19 February violent demonstrations.
The Federal Government of Somalia apologised for the manner in which the security forces responded to demonstrations. This breakthrough was made possible by the Presidential Candidates who distanced themselves from Yusuf Mohamud Siyad Indha’ade, who had claimed to have taken over security at the Unknown Soldier’s Monument.
The Federal Government of Somalia and the Union of Presidential Candidates have struck a five-point deal:
1- The Federal Government will be in charge of security at venues where demonstrations will take place.
2- Both the Federal Government and Presidential Candidates will ensure that demonstrations will be peaceful.
3- The Federal Government of Somalia and the Union of Presidential Candidates agreed on the postponement of demonstrations slated to take place on 26 February, 2021.
4 – The Federal Government of Somalia and Union of Presidential Candidates agreed to continue electoral talks.
5- A committee to investigate the 19 February violent demonstrations will be appointed.
