We recently reported one of the biggest strategic and diplomatic developments of Taiwan involving Soloman Islands. As per reports we heard, it was revealed that the Solomon Islands is looking to cut diplomatic ties with Taiwan. At that time, it was believed that China has a whole lot to do with the decision from the Solomon Islands to do this.
Now, the Solomon Islands officials have officially confirmed that they are indeed cutting ties with Taiwan. They say that the diplomatic ties will be “shifted” from Taiwan to China which means that the Solomon Islands’ foreign embassy in Taiwan has been closed and will be opened in China.
As far as the involvement of China is concerned, that has indeed come to be true. The Solomon Islands have said that they received a USD 500 million ‘aid’ from China which is the reason why they have shifted diplomatic ties from China to Taiwan. In short, we can say that China offered this money to the current government in the Solomon Islands and they obliged as well.
As reported by the Liberty Times, there was a meeting held Solomon Islands Prime Minister Manasseh Damukana Sogavare to discuss the move to switch diplomatic ties from Taiwan to China. Reportedly, all the 33 members involved in the meeting voted in favour of switching ties from Taiwan to China which is obvious because of the money put on the table by the Chinese regime.
While Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent a delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister of Taiwan to the Solomon Islands, it is known that the move has been approved by the cabinet. Also, the final tally shows that 27 votes were put in favour of switching ties to China while 6 of them abstained which means that no one voted against the switch.
