Reactions from all over the country are coming in after the Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen secured a victory in the DPP primary elections. This victory means that President Tsai will once again fight for the Taiwan Presidential Elections in 2020.
However, ex-Premier William Lai of the Democratic Progressive Party is in disbelief regarding the result. Also, there are reactions coming in which show doubt towards these results as reported by TheDiplomat.
Talking about the results, President Tsai secured 35.68 percent votes in the DPP primary whereas William Lai got 27.48 percent votes in the combined results of five polls by the DPP.
Taiwan Independence Movement complained that President Tsai used government resources so that she could beat down her challenger, William Lai, with DPP leadership accomplishing her.
Democratic Progressive Party is also described as “nest of thieves” by Taiwan Independence Movement and the the group has also quoted United States President Harry Truman. They said “They’re thieves, every damn one of them.” who said the same about President Chiang Kai-shek’s wife and her touring members.
Taiwan’s Independent Movement also claimed that this will lead to a defeat by DPP on January 11, 2020, presidential as well as legislative elections due to the handling of primaries. Earlier, the group had said that they would keep a close eye on the president’s policies and if she did not affect real changes then they would still criticize here and even organize protests if needed.
Not only Taiwan Independent Movement, but DPP polls also made Taiwan Public Opinion foundation to react. The foundation chaired by Ying-lung You said that the polls were not a true reflection of the public opinion and he also added that Tsai’s unexpected victory led to a “sorrowful occasion” for the ruling party, DPP, who also expected the victory of William Lai according to them. He also described President Tsai’s victory as “strangest presidential polls in history,”
