Raisi marks his position as the next president in Iran election

Hardliner Ebrahim Raisi is ready to become the next Iranian president beating three other candidates in the poll. The results predicted so far from the Iran election say he is the second-highest-ranking official in the nation. The country runs as per conservative religious values and has curbs on political freedoms since its 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The 60-year-old Raisi served a major portion of his career as a prosecutor. He then in 2019 got appointed as the head of the judiciary after losing to Hassan Rouhani in the 2017 presidential election.

Mr. Raisi proved himself as a great person who fought for corruption and resolved Iran’s economic issues. When casting his vote in Tehran, Raisi once said, “Our people’s grievances over shortcomings are real”. His statements and fierce contributions show his loyalty towards Iran’s ruling Clerics.

Mr. Raisi promised to make more jobs accessible and remove US sanctions for the recent Iran election. Both Supreme Leader Khamenei and Mr. Raisi favor a return to a foreign deal on Iran’s nuclear practice.

The signed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in 2015 rendered Iran relief from Western sanctions on behalf of limiting its nuclear exercises. In 2018 the US happened to pull out of the deal, and then President Trump’s administration re-imposed barriers to Iran’s trading ability.

Iran, however, re-started performing those nuclear exercises listed baned under the contract. There are discussions going on to resurrect the deal, and as per sources, the present US president Joe Biden is also eager to revive it. The problem that still remains is both sides expect the other to make the first move.

The state TV claimed Mr. Raisi received 62% votes so far as the counting procedure still happens to continue. Agnes Callamard, Amnesty chief, said, “That Ebrahim Raisi has risen to the presidency instead of being investigated for the crimes against humanity of murder, enforced disappearance and torture, is a grim reminder that impunity reigns supreme in Iran.” Mr. Raisi, although, never addressed the remarks and allegations regarding his role in them and acknowledged the mass executions.
