Russian president calls for foreign volunteers indulging in war with Ukraine. According to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, 16,000 foreign volunteers are ready to fight. They will be with Russia-backed forces in the Middle East. Syrians trained in urban combat. This is as per the US authorities. It could be among them.
Moscow has been a long-standing ally of Syria. And Russian President Vladimir Putin is a significant supporter of the Syrian President. Bashar al-Assad was directly supported by him during the country’s civil conflict.
“If you see that there are these people who want to come to support the people living in Donbas on their own will, not for money, then we need to give them what they want and help them go to the combat zone” Mr. Putin told his defense minister.
Mr. Shoigu came up with a plan of handing over a captured western anti-tank missile system. Russian-backed rebel fighters are in the breakaway in Ukraine regions. Also, it is with Luhansk and Donetsk in the Donbas region.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sent a video message. He calls them the “thugs from Syria” They would be arriving to kill people “in a foreign territory.”
Foreign volunteers include past and current British army members. They have also arrived in Ukraine to fight for Kyiv’s administration.
