Pakistan violates ceasefire on LoC as fire exchanged between both sides: Report

In a significant escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, Pakistani troops opened “unprovoked” fire across multiple Indian Army posts along the Line of Control (LoC) on the night of April 25–26, 2025. This marks the second consecutive night of firing incidents, as bilateral relations worsen following the massacre of 26 civilians at Jammu and Kashmir’s popular tourist destination, Pahalgam.

According to a statement released by the Indian Army, Pakistani forces engaged in small arms fire from several posts across the LoC. Indian troops retaliated appropriately, and no casualties were reported. “On the night of 25th-26th of April 2025, unprovoked Small Firing was carried out by multiple Pakistan Army posts all across the Line of Control in Kashmir. Indian troops responded appropriately with small arms. No casualties reported,” the statement read.

Military sources indicated that the firing appeared to be speculative in nature, likely aimed at testing the alertness of Indian troops amid heightened tensions. Calls within India have grown louder for decisive military action against terror camps operating across the border.

The ceasefire violations come just days after the horrific attack at Baisaran meadow, known as “Mini Switzerland,” where five heavily armed terrorists opened fire on tourists, killing 26 civilians. The Resistance Front (TRF), an affiliate of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), claimed responsibility for the massacre. Intelligence sources have pointed to Lashkar chief and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed as the handler behind the operation.

In a strong retaliatory measure, India announced the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, citing Pakistan’s “sustained cross-border terrorism.” Union Water Minister C.R. Patil warned that “not a drop” of the Indus water would flow into Pakistan going forward.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a stern warning, vowing that those responsible for the Pahalgam massacre would face retribution “bigger than they can imagine.” He assured the nation that Indian forces would pursue the terrorists relentlessly.

Amid the deteriorating relations, both countries have pulled their diplomatic missions, suspended visa services, and given visiting nationals a deadline to return home. Islamabad responded by suspending all bilateral agreements, including the historic Simla Agreement. Additionally, the iconic Wagah Border ceremony, a major tourist attraction, has been indefinitely shut down.
