India Inches Closer To Energy, Economic Goals

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said his country is making strides in working to “reduce its carbon footprint by 30-35%” claiming that New Delhi’s “target of 175 gigawatts of renewable energy (generated) by 2022, and 450 gigawatts by 2030 (while) a big target,” will be achieved “before time”.

“I am confident of achieving it,” Prime Minister Modi said to the eighth convocation of Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) via video link.

Alongside Mr. Modi, Mukesh Ambani, the current president of the board of governors at PDPU, and Chairman of the nation’s Reliance Industries Ltd also appeared buoyant, adding that “(I)n the post-Covid era, I clearly foresee explosive and exponential growth in the Indian economy.”

Mr. Ambani went on to say that it would be the younger generation that would be creating future opportunities in the world of energy production, adding that “By the middle of this century the world will use twice as much energy as we use today. In the next two decades, India’s per-capita energy needs will be more than twice as much as today.”
