Huang Hua who was once the National Policy Adviser has been sitting on a hunger strike with a demand for Taiwan Independence as per the reports. That hunger strike has now entered the 52nd day and the hunger strike from Huang Hua is still going on. It is known that Huang Hua is currently 80 years in terms of age. Initially, Huang Hua consumed 1000 cc of fruit juice, 1000 cc of milk and water for the strike. But since June 2, he has only consumed water. This hunger strike termed as “Gandhi-style” was started on May 19 at the main hall of Taipei Railway Station.

Huang calls on the people of Taiwan and says that the time has now come that people of the country rise up and establish a similar country. Otherwise, he says that Taiwan’s fate will be same as others who have had to merge with Republic of China. The activist’s main demand is for Taiwan’s self-determination as well as the formation of a Republic of Taiwan.

Huang also wrote a book titled “No Other Choice” where he claims how people of Taiwan have no other choice but to endure being citizens of Qing empire then the Japanese and Republic of China. Also, Huang is using a method which is non-violent as well as sustainable to awaken the Taiwanese and also move towards Independent Taiwan.

He also hopes that all the small and pro-Taiwan political parties of the country would join together to form a new party than can replace KMT as an alternative to DPP.

It is also interesting to note that Huang converted to Christianity and was baptized in presence of Presbyterian Church official just 3 days into the hunger strike. Many visitors including the Presidential Secretary-General Chen Chu as well as DPP Chairman Cho Jung-Tai have already visited Huang to encourage him in his movement.
