Gunman shot mostly blacks at Buffalo; another race-hatred case

A man got suspected of shooting 10 people dead. This happened at a supermarket in Buffalo. Authorities said the man deliberately sought a site with a high black population. Police said that the suspect, Payton Gendron, 18, drove more than 320km (200 miles) to carry out the attack.

The attack investigated as an act of racially motivated violent extremism. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said that the suspect intended to take as many as black lives possible.

A 180-page document seemingly authored by Mr. Gendron emerged. He describes himself as a fascist and a white supremacist.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul told ABC News that she want to know what people knew and when they knew it. Joseph Gramaglia is Buffalo’s chief of police. He told reporters Mr. Gendron made generalized threats while still in high school.

He spent a day and a half in the hospital, where he underwent mental health evaluation. Then, he got released. Police believed that the gunman tried to continue his rampage after the attack stopped.

Mr. Gramaglia told CNN, with evidence that he had plans to target a second store. He also does not appear to have remained under watch by authorities.

FBI Special Agent Steven Belongia told the New York Times neither state police nor the FBI had any intelligence on Mr. Gendron. The gun store owner who sold him a semi-automatic weapon told several US outlets that no alert came up when his name was on the run through a government background check system.

However, New York’s Attorney General Letitia James said her office would focus on extremist material online. She said that this event committed by a sick.

This demented individual fuelled by a daily diet of hate. The shooting struck the local community. One of them also said that it just hurts why somebody would do that. Out of the 13 people shoot, police said 11 people were black.
