Former Brunswick Judicial Circuit top prosecutor Jackie Johnson is facing the accusation for showing favor to one defendant in the killing. She did not reveal previously that she previously sought the assistance of that prosecutor in the Arbery investigation.

Johnson is facing the accusation for improper blocking of the arrest of Travis McMichael, Greg’s son. He chased and shot Arbery in their truck on 23 rd Feb in 2020.

Johnson was the district attorney at that time of the killing. She disqualified herself from dealing with this case as a prosecutor. She took several actions related to this, which ultimately delayed the arrest for both Bryan and McMichaels. A grand jury in Glynn County with Attorney General Chris Carr is dealing with the case of Johnson.

“Our office is committed to ensuring those who are entrusted to serve are carrying out their duties ethically and honestly,” Carr said in a prepared statement Thursday.

“We thank the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Glynn County Grand Jury for their hard work. While an indictment was returned today, our file is not closed, and we will continue to investigate to pursue justice,” he said.

Thursday’s indictment of Johnson says that on the note of Arbery’s killing, she recommended Waycross Judicial Circuit DA George Barnhill to take over this case. She did not disclose that she previously sought the assistance of DA Barnhill on this case.
