November 20th and 21st, saw Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosting a “New Generation of Smart Technology Applications” programme in the south of the country, with Foreign Minister Joseph Wu inviting representatives of 34 foreign missions and nations to visit a number of smart technology enterprises in Tainan and Kaohsiung.
The Minister has been a vocal proponent of Taiwan’s smart ‘tech’ in encouraging foreign embassies in Taipei to assist in increased cooperation with Taiwan’s high tech industries, with the added mutual benefit of Taiwanese enterprises, areas of the arts, and local governments also being brought into line with international standards.
The delegation visiting the ancient capital – Tainan – and the nation’s largest port city – Kaohsiung – also attended the “2020 Presidential Palace Concert” at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts to enjoy a performances demonstrating Taiwan’s blend of science and technology with culture.
The cities of Tainan and Kaohsiung are the developmental centers of Taiwan’s innovation and tech industries; a point the mayors of both used in exchanges with the delegations as they pushed investment opportunities in their respective cities..
The development and application of high-tech systems in Taiwan such as drone technology, and ‘intelligent’ motor vehicles offers great potential for future international cooperation and expansion.
During the trip, the delegation visited tech related companies, witnessed the precision application of pesticides by smart drones, and tested high-tech electric vehicles, in addition to experiencing a virtual reality video and ‘i-Ride’ flight over Kaohsiung.
